For tourists around the world, the boat to Hudson Yards is a main attraction. They pay $ 10 a visit to climb to the top of the 16-story structure, which includes 2,500 steps through 154 flights of zigzag stairs, and have views of the city from 80 different landings.
But for some local neoyorcan people, the boat is just a large number of gym equipment.
A freshly launched equinox training class has Freaks fitness paying $ 55 to run and lower the branch -shaped structure four times in 45 minutes and complete an exhausting upper body training on top. It is not a walk in the park.
“It was harder than I thought it would be,” said Edgar Irizarry, 32, who works in technology, lives at UPper West Side and did the class on Tuesday morning. “You think you are full of energy, but when you start approaching -you on top, your legs begin to hurt and feel -really heavy and you still have two flights to follow.”
Classes take place on Tuesday at 7 am (only for equinox members) and on Thursday at 7 am and 8 am for the general public. Reserves must be made in advance.
Andrew Slane, one of the instructors, said that the class is even difficult for those who are already in good shape.
“It’s very humble,” he told The Post. “Many of the people who take the class marathons and were like” this is difficult. “
Christopher Vo, director of group fitness programming for Equinox, said that it is a unique challenge due to the appearance of climbing, which strengthens the glutes and legs.
“Many times when we are in a group fitness environment, we can do things in front or sideways, but we rarely become vertical,” said Vo. “It is also a great cardiovascular training.”
Equinox has wanted to do a class on the boat since it opened last October, after a three -year closing needed for a series of suicides. Vo said it is a really unique fitness site.
“Being -and making the structure stirred around you, it is really special,” said Vo.
The class, which has 20 to 25 people, begins with a stretching session at the base. Participants then go back the boat, go back and forth. At the top they make a resistance movement to the upper body with arm bands for about 10 minutes, before falling again and doing more exercises, such as climbers and mountain planks, at the base. Then they repeat the whole process, or at least some.
“Some of the runners go down and do not go up again,” someone who works on the boat said and observed early classes.
Shahar Ifrah, of 24
“It was an intense, amazing and so fun crazy to experiment with -without tourists around,” said Ifrah, who participated in Tuesday’s class. “I want to do it again as many times as I can register -me.”
Another advantage: it was recorded in its structure on the phone.
“I definitely publish these videos,” he said. “Everyone will see I did it.”
But it had its limits. At the end of the class, the instructors wanted to take a group photo again on the top of the boat. Although they told the group that they could walk, do not run, all this seemed like a section.
Ifrah asked, “The lift does not work?”
