I was the first woman to lead the London Marathon in Topless, now I do it again

The first woman to lead the London Marathon in Topless is “fired and excited” to return to her to run this weekend.

Louise Butcher, 51, last ran the route of 26.2 miles on April 21, 2024, two years after undergoing a double mastectomy for lobed breast cancer.

On November 3 last year, he was one of the 250 women to participate in a topless swimming, for the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.

Louise is currently touring the United Kingdom, which covers cities such as Bath, Cardiff, Devon, London and Newcastle’s North Run Great.

It will now start at the London Marathon this weekend, raising money for the charity of breast cancer.

Louise, a charity worker, Branton, Devon, said: “This will be my fifth marathon in total, and now I have only been running marathons for two and a half years.

“I am proud of myself and proud of all the others who have jumped on board to make topless operation more normal and something that people can connect with.

“At this point I feel very well and really strong.

“I have not been injured and I have been doing strength training for the past three months.

“It’s totally about taking care of your body, ensuring -you don’t do it too much: it’s not just about working.

“Power is in healing.”

In April 2022, Louise was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer after receiving an ultrasound on his left chest.

The fabric was thickened and during his first unique mastectomy in June 2022, his surgeon discovered a 5 -centimeter tumor near the chest wall.

He had his second mastectomy, to eliminate the right breast tissue in August 2022.

Despite hearing the “pressure” for reconstructive surgery, Louise chose not to go, and says he wanted to fight social norms and feel comfortable in his own skin.

He received five rounds of intensive radiation therapy and directed his first, virtual London Marathon, five after the end of treatment, on October 2, 2022.

“I did not feel the need to follow social norms and obtain reconstructive surgery,” he added.

“I accept how I am, and it is something that I have learned to control, despite what others think.”

The charity volunteer operated almost again, at the London Marathon in 2023 and pledged to participate in person the following year.

On April 21, 2024, Louise became the first woman to lead the Marathon in Topless while showing the scars of mastectomy.

This year, he is “further excited” to participate in the epic race once again.

Louise said, “I’m really excited and said goodbye to me on Sunday!

“I have to do it to undo -me of all the energy I have after taking -the slowest in recent weeks to prepare!”

In addition to raising awareness of lobed breast cancer, he also wanted to promote body positivity and acceptance of self -acceptance.

“Many people knew me through Tiktok, so I had a lot of people who encouraged me,” said Louise.

“It would have been an incredible experience to do

“But people saw me in topless and crying, women shouted my name; it was incredible.

“Breast cancer surgeons came to me and say that it was incredible.

“I just felt the right thing to do in topless at that time.”

Louise managed to raise $ 4,650 for charity breast cancer now, only participating in La Marató last year.

He is now going through his tour in the United Kingdom, which will include the next London Marathon, as well as the great West and the Great Runs North.

Louise said, “I want to empower people and document my journey to inspire others.

“It’s about showing all vulnerabilities.

“I published videos at first, when I was going through cancer, so people can see the trip and know that you can overcome these feelings.

“I think people can relate -because it is real.

“So well it can go out negative; it may not be cancer, people go through these traumas in their lives.

“But it does not mean that your life is over. You can also make things positive.”

Louise runs around Branton most of the days without head and is not planning to stop at any time.

Louise added: “Everything has opened a can of worms, to be honest.

“But I wanted this to happen, I didn’t start [running topless] Because I thought everyone would like it.

“I was doing it to turn on the change; to make people think of what others told their appearances.

“I accept the way I am, this is the best that my body has ever been.

“I’m the strongest I’ve been and the cutest.”

Louise said he will also publish a book this year entitled “Going Topless”, which will document his experience.
